Huh. More than I expected - I'd thought we were talking some abandoned homestead, not a whole town. How small of a "small town"? "One road" small or "mainly suburbs" small?

[ She almost climbs the wall to start weaving a map where said wall meets the ceiling, but that seems....impractical. So instead, she describes for him, in concise yet exacting terms, the layout and condition of the ruins the monsters of Ryslig discovered in the wilderness.

Saint-Germain is (unknowingly) useless in most social situations, but making reports? She's been doing that for centuries. ]

[ He listens intently, committing as much as he can to memory. He might try to sketch up a map himself later... After she finishes going over the town's layout with him, he nods slowly in thought. ]

Find anything besides those books worth keeping? Or was there anything of particular interest that you couldn't bring back? ...Tch, wish I could've just gone myself... instead of going into a damn coma for the whole time...

[ He'll have to have a look at those books she donated too; either the Historical Society will work with him on that or he'll just come back and break in after hours. ]

Triffany Lottablog identified two amulets I found as symbols of the Day and Night Gods. If they'd possessed any power, it'd long since been drained.

[ But he's looking for something in particular, isn't he. ]

What would you have examined?

[ The Ring-Spirit hums. Amulets... He can't help but wonder if they'd ever had functions similar to the differing keys the Fog and Fourth give their followers now... But he's been asked a question in turn. ]

For anything that might be related to that squiggle-god. You remember the one I spoke of? And for any references to the Sea of Stars... nobody has much to say about it now, but they might have known more in the past, or simply spoken more freely about it.

[ Something occurs to him then, and he adds it in, speaking half to himself. ]

...For that matter, I wonder if the Fog's always made her monsters from outsiders, or if she ever used to turn local humans...

[ He does have a small cult who would be very interested in that last point after all. ]

I'm simply trying to get a feel for what sort of evidence was there to find, really.

I looked into those topics, as well. Unfortunately, I found nothing....but that's just one settlement. There might be more.

Disappointing... But you make a good point as well. Ryslig is just one part of what was once an entire continent, I'm sure the wastelands have more than one set of ruins.

[ He taps his chin as he considers what getting back to the horrible place everyone just escaped from might require. ]

Mm, any ideas on how to deal with the corrupted fog? How much do you think we could get done before killing each other?

[ Genuine questions, because this is a terrible idea and Bakurae love those. ]

We'd mitigate risk with planning. Haftesal has gas masks and a meat substitute that tempers hunger. I also have spare [ corpses ] rations for flesh eaters.

[ If anybody came along who wasn't, they'd need to hunt.....and hunt frequently. Yet this also produces a meat supply for said flesh eaters. It's a trade-off, and one whose advantages and challenges Saint-Germain has yet to fully assess.

Still, she's certain: ]

The wild monsters are the biggest threat.

[ He hums in approval. He had realized those sorts of supplies were available... good to know! However... ]

Do you have connections with anyone in Haftesal? As a Fog-follower, I'm quite certain they won't let me enter the city.

[ Saint Germain raises another excellent point though. They won't simply have to worry about one another. ]

The wild monsters, they'll certainly present an issue... How intelligent, how capable of planning, were they still? Could you tell? I'd heard they were both crazed and... corrupted in some way; but I didn't get much detail. It'd help to know whether we'll be dealing with crafty strategists or simple berserkers.

[ She shakes her head: she doesn't know anyone in Haftesal......yet. But she'll find a way to get what they need. It's a nonissue. ]

I experimented. They're nonverbal, and intelligence varies by creature. Think of them as monsters who are constantly in a frenzy state - violent and insatiable.

Well, I'll leave working something out with Haftesal in your hands all the same. They'll still prefer you over me - unless you pledged Fog too, I guess. You've got a "Neutral Forever" kinda vibe to me, though...

Hm. You could use your webbing to set up a perimeter, if we find a good location to examine closely or we need to make camp. We also should check Spengler's for monster weaknesses. Equip ourselves to fight a variety of monsters at least long enough to escape. Silver, iron, salt - that kind of thing.
