so in other words, your assistance with spreading truths about the Fog will help you defeat her (via pharaoh, via card game). that's what you just said.
it's not that I trusted you, but you're telegraphing worse than usual. been getting enough sleep?
My goal is to get home! Whether that's because the Pharaoh defeats her or she's thrilled I've conquered the peninsula in her name doesn't matter. I can't overlook a single possibility.
[ Can he say it. Can he say it, to the Ring-Spirit? He'll be opening himself up for vulnerability, but... the funny thing about this otherwise completely untrustworthy person is that he's already seen Marik at Marik's most vulnerable. And agreed to help anyway. Because it served his own purposes.
[ Oh, he wants to get home, does he? How completely novel, it's not like the Ring-Spirit himself isn't trying to get back to their world. Noooo, the game has changed entirely, because now Marik Ishtar is who wants the thing. ]
[ But Marik risks giving a reason for why he cares, beyond "I want it".
The Ring-Spirit can't help but compare their goals in going home. The Ring-Spirit intends to finish what he'd been interrupted in the middle of: opening the door to the Afterworld. Release the rest of his divine-self into the mortal realm, then tear his own self apart to give back the piece of himself that he carried - destroy the Ring-Spirit, discard the Thief-King, thus making whole the Great Evil God. Thus ensuring that the entirety of the world suffers just as much as Kul Elna, and for just as long.
When he gets home, Marik and his siblings will, all of them, be far worse off than simply dead.
then focus on what's truly separating us from home.
everyone says the Fog is what keeps us here, but that's only the truth insofar as she keeps us *in Ryslig*. what she's keeping us from isn't our homes, it's the Sea of Stars. she can pull us out of there, but none of us, not even her, have been able to pass *beyond* it. the Sea of Stars is the true obstacle. ask Noa for more detail.
I don't plan on staying here forever either. I've been working on it myself, but it's slow going.
[ If there was anything decent about him, he'd warn somebody "hey, when we're ready to go home, don't let me go with you" but, well. If he was anything decent they wouldn't need a warning like that, now would they. ]
[ A pause? Why a pause? ...Who can ever tell what this guy is thinking, though. He's got a track record of acting like a fool and then revealing a half-decent strategy.
So Marik will consider what the Ring-Spirit has to say. Ask Noa, huh. That can be arranged. Marik is so incredibly well-situated here, it's amazing. Yes, Ryslig clearly had just been waiting for Marik Ishtar to show up in order to be saved. He's got this. ]
Is Noa collaborating with you?
[ do you two have a plan
can he hear the plan
can he make fun of and then improve the plan
that is what you hired him to do
yes
.......shoot, though, the Fog's weakness isn't going to help in the long run then, huh. ONE CANNOT DUEL THE SEA OF STARS.
...and while he tries to surmount this Sea of Stars hurdle, here, have a nonsequitur that just popped into his mind on the topic of Noa. Obviously you need to hear everything he thinks it would be a good idea for you to do, as he ponders the ultimate goal, because all of his ideas are good ideas. ]
You should become a Fog Priest, too. It will increase your credibility.
damn right it would, because "Fog Priest" isn't a job, it's a powerset: a reward bestowed by the Fog herself. I can't simply "become a priest", I have to sufficiently impress her for it.
Then that's our next step. Growing our reach is a good start, but we'll need something flashy, too.
[ and this is where his plans start potentially conflicting, because he needs the Fog weak so Atem can duel her, but if they're going to impress the Fog, right now things that restore her power would be most effective...
But he shall thread this needle! He is certain! He PONDERS. ]
<hotrod>
Even our agreement.
[ Rest assured! Apparently getting your dead arch-nemesis to smooch your prior abode PROMOTES THE RISE OF THE TRUE FOG!
Or something. ]

not as such. we share information, but have different priorities.
