[ Not too long after the Ring-Spirit receives that box, there's a knock on Ryou and Atem's apartment door late in the evening. It is, of course, the Ring-Spirit. He's wearing an actual coat for once, one tailored to fit a harpy. He also has a pair of boxes wrapped in plain brown paper and tied together with twine - if no one's home or they're busy, he'll simply add a note to the package and leave it, but Ryou had said he missed him, so... ]
[Ryou happens to be home, because you know, he started the trip before the Ring-Spirit and it was the second-to-last present he'd delivered anyway. As a matter of fact, he could smell who it was at the door, and he's a little surprised.
It shows a little on his face when he opens the door, revealing his big night-form wolf head.]
Oh. I...I wasn't expecting you to visit so soon, Spirit.
[He doesn't sound disappointed about it--he'd meant it when he said he missed the Ring-Spirit, and although only his unclothed (except for the leather collar) upper body was visible at this point, there was an odd whipping sound coming from just past the door, like the air was being displaced.
[ Ryou seems happy to see him! That's still got an air of novelty for the Ring-Spirit, and he perks up. He also notes that Ryou seems to enjoy being a werewolf - shame he can't stay one forever. ...Or could he? Hm. Oh, right, question, uh - ]
Yeah - if you're not busy. If you're busy, I can always come back another time...
[ The Ring-Spirit briefly considers suggesting Ryou ask Mana if she can make these switches permanent, buuut decides Ryou would have already thought of that on his own. Ryou can make those decisions without his interference - bringing it up would probably just bring the mood down.
Oops, he's getting distracted. He hurriedly offers up the two boxes. ]
Er, your real gift's going to be late, so I got you something else for the meantime.
[ Ryou can probably smell the sugar even through the paper and cardboard. The Ring-Spirit got something he doesn't anticipate lasting very long. ]
[Ryou backs away, willing his tail to stop wagging...and mostly succeeding. It is sweeping slowly from side to side though, but it's lower and less likely to take something out.
When he's offered the boxes, Ryou immediately holds both hands up (which reveals his stupid precious pads but that's neither here nor there)]
Y-you didn't need to get me anything, you know. I didn't give you...what I gave you for any...
[The Ring-Spirit will likely note how Ryou's nostrils flare, his chest expanding as he samples the tasty scent in the box. Ooh. He doesn't finish his sentence, not that he doesn't still feel that way.
But the sugar has now claimed his attention. Oops.]
[ The Ring-Spirit rolls his eyes at Ryou's protests, stepping inside. For all its casual insolence, his tone's a fond one. ]
What kind of a bastard gets a gift like that and just ~does nothing~? Besides, I already got this, it's here now, and you waaant it...~
[ He persists, holding the boxes out further, temptingly. He's sure Ryou will crack without much pressure, he can tell Ryou's already got an idea of what's inside.
If and when Ryou opens the packages, he'll find that the smaller box is filled with chewy knäck, while the larger box has five profiteroles on one side and a sharing-sized rulltårta on the other. The Ring-Spirit had been informed that rulltårta and knäck were more traditional Nattenfest treats, hence the variety. ...Also maybe Ryou would inhale it a little slower if it wasn't all his favorite. Maybe. ...Well a guy can always dream.
While waiting for Ryou to take the gift (or while Ryou's busy snarfing it up, whichever), the Ring-Spirit continues on. ]
Your timing with those figures was perfect, by the way. My Monster World game's going to start up again soon. We're still down about half the party, so there's open seats if you or Atem want in. Hell, invite Yugi, if he'd even be interested - I'll be putting up an open invitation on the network again in January between fogs.
[Ryou is nothing if not predictable, and he does take the boxes, even as his ears flick back because he knows he's being taunted. He breathes out a huff through his snout, then moves towards the living room, intending for the Ring-Spirit to follow. He takes a seat at the couch, sets the boxes on the coffin-table, and peeks inside.
...By god, this bastard's trying to kill him, isn't he? Ryou's convinced.
It doesn't stop him from helping himself to the profiteroles, because there was no way he was going to let those escape his attention. Two are gone before he actually speaks again, which...might be rude but also look what you did.]
Mmh, well. [He licks his chops, looking positively comical as he does so but uhhh, the sugary treats make him not care.] I thought it would be nice...if you had stand-in pieces, just in case. You know, for the basics, until people can have their own figures made.
[He pauses when the spirit starts talking about running his campaign soon, and although he's pretty pragmatic about his role or Atem's...there is one part he can't help but laugh at.]
Yugi would be interested in any game, you don't have to twist his arm at all, I'm certain. He gets bored, what with not sleeping, you know. As for Atem and me...I have to think about me, but...I'm sure Atem would also like it.
[Ryou pokes at one of the profiteroles, his claw crunching through the flaky crust.]
I-it's not that I don't want to. I do. I might join your game...but I also must work on my board, and write a campaign for it as well. If I could get a little more peace, it might be easier...
[ The Ring-Spirit does indeed follow, watching happily as Ryou snarfs the pastries.
When Ryou finally stops to laugh, his own smirk reflexively widens into a grin. He leans casually against one of the couch arms, giving an amused snort in response to one point in particular. ]
We'd been using chess pieces with names taped to em, so hell yeah having actual figures will be nice.
Don't worry about the game if you're busy, it's fine - I just wanted to be sure you knew you're welcome at the table.
[ He's not sure if he surprised or not that Yugi's previous experiences with roleplaying and the Ring-Spirit won't pose a problem... of course maybe Ryou's just making an assumption... The Ring-Spirit doesn't draw attention to the point though, not wanting to risk spoiling the mood. ]
How's your board coming along, anyway? My group's just playing on something cobbled together out of paper - an actual board's going to be a real selling point when you start your own game.
[As the Ring-Spirit chatters, Ryou licks at the frosting on top of the flaky pastry, his tongue working in a rhythm as he does so. It's very reminiscent of a dog, but there's not much he can do about that, honestly.
It occurs to him that he needs to slow down so he doesn't make himself ill, particularly because the profiteroles are frosted in chocolate...so he makes the executive decision that this is his last one and finishes it off.]
Mmm...well I appreciate you asking me. I do!
Actually, my board's starting to come along! I have two prototypes for board sections! One has swivel mechanics, and the other's just a flat section with the grid carved in. They're not quite perfect, but I learned a lot from working on them, and hopefully I can improve them with time!
[He grins widely, just about as excited as the Ring-Spirit, honestly.]
I can't wait to run a game myself...Horatio thinks it might be a good idea to run a campaign at the Lucky, for those who would prefer something different than gambling!
H-heh, and the Lucky does sound like a good place to host - when you're ready to start, that could be another way to distinguish your game from mine, too. You'd be playing in a public place, while mine always meets in somebody's house. It's a nice house, and plenty big enough, but it's still, well, somebody's house. I can see that being a make or break point for some people.
Have you...ever thought about buying a board from Mana? I know that sounds pretty rich coming from me, because I'm building my own, but I'd feel pretty bad if my board upstaged yours. You know you could borrow it if you wanted. Once I make it, the parts will be easy to transport!
But yes! The swivel works, I just need to make some adjustments and buy better magnets. I'm very excited to start working on the details of it all.
[As evidenced by his more rapidly wagging tail. Since he's sitting, the tip just wags up and down, up and down--
Fwump.
And then it whaps against the box of snacks, making him nearly tip it over. Only then does he reach a hand out to still it. No, bad! Stop...don't waste good snacks! He huffs out a sigh through his nose.
...It sounds very canine. All of this is very canine. Ryou please.]
[ The Ring-Spirit starts to frown thoughtfully in response to the Mana-related question, but then Ryou's tail starts misbehaving and the Ring-Spirit's expression crumbles back into a grin as he snickers. He tries to refocus on the Mana thing, but he can't stop grinning. ]
H-heheh - well, I - h-heeheeheh - I did think about it; but by the time I had enough coins you were already here, and buying your board felt... weird, then.
[ He quiets down a bit more as something occurs to him. ]
I suppose I could buy a generic one, rather than specifically yours... never thought of that. Wonder how much a board that covers all the places I included on the paper map would cost... hm...
[He's pouting. It is probably very amusing to the Ring-Spirit and he feels pretty embarrassed about it! Clearly the only way to deal with his concerns is to ignore them!]
Anyway...you could always ask Mana. I'm sure she'd answer even if you didn't have all the coins she needed. And if you do need help, then I have coins to spare. I really don't mind...especially since you bought me the computer and rulebook.
